      𝐺𝑟𝑜𝑢𝑝 𝑝ℎ𝑜𝑡𝑜 𝑡𝑎𝑘𝑒𝑛 𝑎𝑓𝑡𝑒𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑙𝑎𝑢𝑛𝑐ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑐𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑚𝑜𝑛𝑦.

The Umi for Change (U4C) Party launched its political manifesto today at Auki market car park area. Led by President Daniel Suidani, the party aims to bring about a united, progressive, harmonious, safe, and just society across the Solomon Islands. This momentous occasion marks the party's official entry into the political landscape as one of three newly registered parties set to contest in the upcoming 2024 election.

      𝐶𝑟𝑜𝑤𝑑 𝑜𝑓 𝑝𝑒𝑜𝑝𝑙𝑒 𝑎𝑡𝑡𝑒𝑛𝑑𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑙𝑎𝑢𝑛𝑐ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑛𝑡.

President Suidani, in his speech, expressed his gratitude for the party's recent registration as a political entity by the Political Parties Commission on January 9th, 2024. He stated that the launch is a testament to the tireless efforts conducted by party officials over several months. Furthermore, he emphasized that U4C is an offspring of the previous MARA government, carrying forward its political and policy ideals. Notably, the party comprises a significant majority of members hailing from the rural communities, signifying a new approach to politics in the country.

The guest of honor at the launching ceremony was the President of the Malaita Provincial Youth Council (MPYC), who expressed his gratitude for being recognized at this national event. As a young Solomon Islander and Malaitan, he acknowledged the privilege of witnessing the launch of the U4C Party Manifesto 2024. He also highlighted that it is unprecedented for a political party to unveil its manifesto in a provincial capital, as they typically do so in the capital city of Honiara before reaching the provinces or provincial capitals.

As a keen observer of national issues, particularly political and leadership matters, the MPYC President shed light on the dominance of "big men" and powerful individuals in the political landscape. He attributed this phenomenon to the patriarchal nature of Solomon Islands society. Acknowledging the need for change, he stressed the importance of identifying ethical and competent candidates to run in the upcoming election. Good leadership, he argued, has been lacking at the national level for far too long, with leaders often prioritizing personal interests over those of the people. In order to rectify this, parties must organize and mobilize the population to determine commendable leaders from within their ranks.

Currently, the criteria used by the population to gauge leadership qualities are inconsistent and disorganized. To break free from this cycle, the MPYC President advocated for the promotion of party politics as the way forward for the country's political development. He urged political parties, including U4C, to actively engage with the youth population by conducting public awareness talks at educational institutions.Furthermore, he encouraged partnerships with community youth groups, as he firmly believed that the inclusion of youths in party activities is crucial. Recognizing their potential as agents of change and the future leaders, he emphasized the need for strategies to attract and involve young people in U4C and similar parties.
